Based in Los Angeles, California, Hythiam is currently licensing its proprietary PROMETA® Treatment Program to hospitals, drug treatment centers, physicians, and major medical systems throughout the United States.

Below is listed just a few of Hythiam's staff authorities who are well known in the field of addiction and addiction treatment:

David E. Smith, M.D., FASAM
Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs

Dr. Smith is recognized as a national leader in the areas of the treatment of addictive disease, the psychopharmacology of drugs, new research strategies in the management of drug abuse problems, and proper prescribing practices for physicians. He is the Founder and President of the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic in San Francisco, which treats over 14,000 people per year.

Dr. Smith's current appointments include Medical Consultant to The Betty Ford Center, Medical Director of the California State Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, Medical Director of the California Collaborative Center for Substance Abuse Policy Research, Adjunct Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, and Fellow and Past President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and of the California Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Smith is the Founder and Publisher of the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs and the co-editor of the International Addiction Infoline newsletter. In addition, he has authored or co-authored 26 books, over 340 journal articles, has edited 28 journals, and been the technical consultant for 28 drug abuse-related films.

Teresa Sullivan, R.N.
V.P., Clinical Operations

Teresa Sullivan is a certified addiction specialist with over 20 years of experience working with chemically dependent populations. Prior to joining Hythiam, Sullivan was the Program Director of Promises, Malibu, a prominent residential treatment facility in Southern California. While there, she designed and developed a program model that successfully integrated innovative approaches with traditional treatment strategies. Before Promises, Sullivan was the administrator for Behavioral Health Services at Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital, responsible for inpatient and outpatient chemical dependency and psychiatric programs. Previously, she was a Nursing Director and Clinical Coordinator for several chemical dependency hospital programs in Northern and Southern California, including Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Sullivan also traveled throughout New England teaching drug education at private preparatory schools.

Donald R. Wesson, M.D.
Vice President, Scientific Affairs

Donald R. Wesson, M.D. is a prominent physician and investigator in the field of substance dependence. Dr. Wesson has been the principal investigator for more than 20 clinical studies sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) or the pharmaceutical industry. He has been extensively published, authoring or co-authoring more than 100 articles, book chapters, books, and monographs on addiction.

A Diplomate to the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Wesson is the medical advisor to the California Health Care Professional's Diversion Program, a member of the Executive Council of the California Society of Addiction Medicine, a member of the Research Advisory Panel of California, Editor of the California Society of Addiction Medicine News, a member of the Advisory Board of Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, and serves on the editorial board of Journal of Addictive Diseases and Journal of Addictions Nursing.

Dr. Wesson, a board-certified psychiatrist, also served as Chief Psychiatrist at the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic in San Francisco. In parallel with his research, he maintained a private practice of psychiatry.
